Firstly I’d like to say that although I am now 18, all my life I have seen and heard strange things. The sorts of things that many in the world don’t even know exist. I do however know that there are people out there like me who sometimes question their sanity, and so I decided to share my story with those people who may be in the same predicament.
I moved into a new house about 2 ½ years ago and when I did, I really didn’t feel anything strange about it right away. But of course I was wrong or there would be no story here. Lol. It’s long but full of emotion so please don’t lose interest. There was this one night last year that will stick in my mind for the rest of my life. I swear on my life that it truly was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced.
I woke up at around 2:30 one night and decided that I needed a drink. I got up and walked to the kitchen. To get there I had to walk past a set of stairs that led downstairs. As I passed the stairwell, something made me pause, and I listened to a strange sort of hum coming from down there. Everything was dark so I couldn’t see anything, but I could still hear the noise. It was sort of a cross between a human hum and a mechanical hum. I did however manage to convince myself that it was just the downstairs fridge (although I really did know that it wasn’t) and got a drink of water from the kitchen.
I walked back to my room and upon passing the stairs, decided to check if that hum was still going. It was. A little unsettled, I went back to bed and closed my eyes. Not long after that I heard a creak of the top stair. I felt my heart skip a beat. I heard heavy breathing from outside. It sounded ragged, like whoever was making it was out of breath. I was really worried now. I listened to the breathing of my parents, in the room to my left, and my brother to my right. All three of them were still asleep. I suddenly felt scared for them. It felt like whoever was outside wanted to hurt us all. I suddenly started to panic that I was never going to see them again, I’d never get to see my friends again. Fear does strange things to you, you know?
The heavy breathing moved to my brother’s room and stood outside the door for almost two whole minutes. I couldn’t see anyone because I was so afraid that if I looked he would hurt me. I just lay there with my eyes closed hoping that he (I felt that it was a man) would disappear. He didn’t. He moved down the hall still breathing heavily, to my parents’ room. He stayed there for ages as well. I thought that after a while he had gone, but just as I thought it might be over, I heard him begin to move again. This time he was standing outside my door! Now I was really panicking. He just stood there, breathing really deeply. I thought that he was actually trying to smell me from the doorway. If he was then I guess I must have smelt like something good because he started to walk over to my bed. I was lying on my side with my long hair covering my face. I hoped to god (and I’m not even religious) that he thought that I was still asleep. My heart started beating really fast now, as he kept walking over to me. I couldn’t breathe properly my heart was beating so fast. I waited and waited as I felt him pause over my bed, literally sniffing me like a dog, and I could felt his breath on my cheek. I felt him touch me and my hair slid over my cheek. I couldn’t keep quiet anymore, and gasped. Instantly I felt his presence vanish. I never heard him again but there are others now.
